I'm currently looking for a centerpiece fish for my aquarium, and nothing I have been researching on my own seems to be a good fit. The tank is a 30 gallon, 3 ft long and 16in high. Currently in it are:
1 percula clown
1 royal gramma
1 firefish
2 banggai cardinals
1 skunk cleaner shrimp.

Also there's a lyretail anthias that's going away this weekend. It's a huge bully and was sold to me as a six line wrasse (for some odd reason). While I drop off the anthias at an LFS I'm planning on picking up a centerpiece fish for the tank. Does anyone know of any reef safe ones that would go well in there? I keep mostly zoas and shrooms in the tank.

I was thinking something like a filefish but I know they aren't always safe around corals, and the same goes with angels. got any good ideas?

In that size tank you might like the personality of a red flame hawk.
I do like how they look, my worry is it wouldn't try and eat any of the fish I already have? I'm planning on adding a pompom crab or something similar.

No issues with your stock and a flame hawkfish

Currently I'm a big fan of the flame hawkfish, but I do love leopard wrasses. I've heard they're difficult to keep though.

Flame hawks are awesome and funny. Mine doesn’t bug my corals or fish. He does perch on corals but he hasn’t hurt anything.

Do they stay out in the open or do they hide/ never move? I also read they might eat my shrimp or firefish, or if I add a small goby it would eat that.

Also, someone mentioned scribbled box fish to me. Those I assume might want something a bit bigger I assume?

jmo I have read everyone's reply here ,, I am going with mta morrow's suggestion ,, a Flasher Wrasse ,, none of the other fish mentioned above would be what I would classify as a center piece fish ,, I wouldn't classify a fish that sits on a rock ,, that you have to go looking for as a center piece fish ,, I would make it a upper end Flasher Wrasse though ,, a lot of Flashers don't look that pretty unless they are flashing ,, that may not be the case with all of them though ,, a Diamond Tail or a Cresent Wrasse may look pretty all the time ,, I have never had one ,, you could research that a bit more ,, I would get a nice Fairy Wrasse ,, the nice looking ones ,, look nice even when they aren't flashing ,, the down side ,, I would ask the Pro's ,, is a 30g tank big enough for a Fairy Wrasse ,, I am sure it would be for a Flasher Wrasse though ,,
