Currently its just part of my routine to look in my sump and manually top off every morning. It has been easy and I am comfortable with this. However I am about to start my fish room build in the basement and once the sump is down there, I worry that the "out of sight, out of mind" mentality will make me forget that I have to top off the tank every day. I tried to do a DIY ATO and it was a disaster. So I am looking for an ATO that is not 200 bucks. Tank is 120 gallons and sump will be a DIY 55 gallon (I'm good at DIY as long as it isn't electrical.

Some ideas here. Threads like these will always get people to tell you what they use, even if cost is more than limit that you set

I successfully use the Auto Aqua Smart ATO which is one you may want to consider. Link above to BRS is also a good place to start.

So many ways to do it. You could just tie your sump it into your RO/DI unit. No matter which way you go incorporate many redundancies so you never have a disaster again.

Ok so I have a stupid question now. Would the Tunze Nano work for a 120 gallon aquarium? I am seriously considering this one but if the Tunze nano would work than I wouldn't have to also buy a pump so that would come out cheaper.

I have been using the hydrofill ato for about 2 years now and it works great. I just use a tom’s aqualifter pump for it as I forget to check my ato container and it can run dry and not hurt it.

That's a helpful tip as I can see me very easily forgetting to check that the reservoir is full.

I use xpaqua DUETTO ato and I love it. The only issue I had with it was my own fault and they still covered it under warranty and quickly shipped me out a replacement.

I went with the dual from autotopoff.com. I think it was $75 to my door with pump. Highly recommend it.

Been using Tunze 3155 osmolators for more than a decade, at one point had 11 on different clients tanks, never had one fail.

Only ATO I will buy/trust.

Just my .02
