Hey guys, I'm getting close to where I'm going to paint my DIY stand and wanted some advice on paint. I'm looking to paint it black to match the rest of my furniture and I'm looking for something that's paint and also polyurethane(I think that's what I need for water resistance?). Any recommendations on a brand would be greatly appreciated bc I'm pretty new to this aspect of reefing. Thanks!!

I have only seen Polyurethane in a cored stain or clear. If you want black you'll have to paint the stand and then add a final coat or two of clear.

Oh really?? I thought I read somewhere that they have actual paint mixed together with polyurethane... maybe it was just the stain I saw. I guess I'd have to go out and buy say... matte black paint, add a coat or 2 then add another coat or 2 of polyurethane afterwards?

Better off using kilz first. Black paint, then poly it with a 3rd product. You'll have a much nicer finish and smoother application. Just my opinion.

A white primer. Get it at HD or Lowe's. Pretty sure Walmart has it too. I like satin finish best on black furniture. Post a pic of your other furniture you want to match.

You might like the look of spray paint over the kilz. No brush marks. About 8 coats will give you a nice finish. Don't rush it. Thin coats.

Well it's not necessarily that I want to match it exactly but my other furniture is black so I figured I'd stick with that color lol.. I was thinking of doing a matte black with a matte grey finish for the mouldings/trim

The advantage of using a primer is that it seals the wood and allows you to sand after applying it so you get the smoothest finish possible. Kilz has an added benefit in that it has a mildew inhibitor.

Brush with kilz first. Spray with black. I would say 8 coats. Maybe 10. You'll be happier with the saturation. Yes spray for matte.

How big is your stand? A gallon of good paint is about 40.00. Good spray paint is about 4.00 a can.

not 100% finished yet

If you cut corners, you are going to regret it later.

Brush your trim. Try satin finish. That is a NICE stand. Do it right.
