I bought this toadstool from my LFS about a month and a half ago and am now noticing some aiptasia growing on the rock that its attached to. The aptasia is only growing on this one rock and I want to get it out of the tank before it spreads to the bigger rocks in my scape. Luckily I still havent glued anything and its just resting on my existing rock work.

My question is can I cut the base of the coral as close to the rock as possible and then glue it to a frag plug or another small rock I have in my tank?

Any other suggestions are much appreciated

I just want to get it out of my tank before it spreads.

Cheers!

You could just remove the rock and burn the Aiptasia off with a cigarette lighter. This only takes a few seconds to do. The rock will get a little scorched, but this usually rubs right off with a little water.
If you'd rather not fiddle with the rock at all a Peppermint shrimp is another option. GL.

It may not be totally recommended but I just moved mine by pulling him carefully off the rock and putting him elsewhere. I added some carbon incase of a chemical temper tantrum. He stayed closed for about 2 days but is now looking good again.

2 options. Take the rock out and chip around the rock with a flat head screw driver--tossing out the chunks with aiptasia. Or you can super glue over the holes that the aiptasia reside in--this way you don't lose any rock. Also looks like you have a mushroom on the rock as well.

Awesome, thank you guys! I ended up burning the 3 that were visible last night and it seemed to work good. This morning I woke up and found another that must have been hiding in a hole on the rock so I decided to super glue that guy. I guess we'll see in a few days if they come back.

Peppermint shrimp got rid of the aptasia in my tank when I started out. I would probably take the rock out and use a chisel to break off the piece of the rock the toadstool is on and get rid of the rest of the rock
