So I have a spiffy new 220g setup that is about to receive her first CUC and fish in a few weeks. I am a planner so part of the plan in my aquascaping was a home for zoanthids.

The island of ricks on the far right is the planned home for them to keep them isolated from spreading to far. This is a very early pic just after filling the tank.

The tanks overall plan is for easy keeping. My fish slections are all based on low maintenance and easy care and so will my coral selections. Do zoanthids fit that plan? Are they relatively easy to care for? I am assuming yes since they appear to me generally more tollerant of water conditions. Not that I am planning on running a swamp but I am looking for an easy care tank to enjoy.

Should zooanthids be my first additions or should I introduce something else first?

Zoa's are very easy to care for. The only concern is that they can have toxins which make handling them outside of the tank potentially dangerous. Otherwise, they are a great beginner coral.

Thanks Brew, you are becoming my tank advisor for sure..

Any suggestions on a good wow zoanthid? Something that will be florescent under the blue lights I run at night? Radions....

I don't, it really is a matter of personal preference. They are a wide variety of beautiful zoa's you almost can't go wrong.

Radioactive dragon eyes pop really nicely and are fairly hardy compared to higher end Zoas. Rastas are also a nice color pattern and are also some what hardy as well. Eagle eyes do well for beginners and have a nice color under actinics.

Don't get this kind:

They're probably the worst paly to get, mostly brown and multiply like crazy if given the chance. Very hard to get rid of and downright dangerous to try and mess with without protection.

Start with the simple zoanthids like radioactive dragon eyes mentioned before or the basic cheap, no-named zoas that are normally the same circumference as a pencil or so.
