I have a 65 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump and was looking to buy an oversized uv sterilizer. I have been reading s lot of posts and can’t really decide which one I want.

I understand it should be larger than the recommended size, and that industrial companies are better than hobbyist when it comes to this. I want to get one that will not be hard to replace bulbs for and ideally would either be able to be attached to my manifold or my return pump itself. The idea of submersible sounds pretty appealing as well.

Any experience with the green machine? Sounds cheap but seemed to have good reviews. Was thinking two 24 watt ones on my tank. Maybe 1 to start.

Looking for feedback and experience with them

I run one of these

I have found that a very large uv is very successful at management or ich and algae. I run a 240 watt at 500GPH on my 200 gallon system. It does wonders. The only time I ever saw ich is when I threw away my old bulbs before the new ones arrived, shattered. Even then, it took over 8 days to see any major problems such as scratching or major white dots. I replaced the bulbs on day 9 and within 2 days all signs of ich were gone!
So yes, it is effective. But you have to have a big enough unit and most hobby grade systems are not built for this.

What unit are you running? I’d be ridiculous and buy a very large uv (if I can fit it) just for long term usage. Like further tank upgrades. I’m thinking something already double my tank size... maybe bigger

Feel free to text me and we can discuss. 18056991270.

I wouldn’t submerge the entire thing but the bottom is just PVC. Wouldn’t be able stand the wiper model on its end though.

Are the wiper models worth the additional money? IS it difficult to clean without the wiper?

So Be102 has 85 gallons total water volume.

He needs a minimum tank turnover rate through a steriliser to kill bacteria faster than it can reproduce. So what is the standard tank turnover rate to achieve this?

Once the tank turnover rate is known then the contact time through the UV is known, so how much wattage is needed to kill bacteria at the specified flow through rate?

If these things aren't known how can the correct steriliser be choosen?

Thank you Steve
