hello all, I’m looking for some pointers. I have a JBJ 28 that I’m going to put back into service. My original plan was to reuse the old equipment and call it a day. But after inspecting the return pumps I realized that the gaskets had all dry rotted and the general condition of the bodies were suspect. So I bought brand new cobalt 1200’s. The aquarium sat in the attic so I inspected the silicone to see if there was any obvious damage since the rubber gaskets in the pumps were bad. I didn’t see anything obvious so my question is, is there a way to tell if the silicone is bad or does it just deal with long term storage better than rubber?

I would think it should be ok. I would give it a visible once over and to give yourself a test. Take it outside and give it a fill test, if you think something is wrong.
