On Tuesday I was greeted with a phone call from the roommate "Dude, your tank is leaking and water everywhere." "You mean overflowing out top or out of sump?" "No, I mean out of the bottom corner, water is spraying. Getting towels, you might want to leave work a lil early...". So with that I arrive home to find 5 buckets, a cooler, and 3 bins- all full of water, rock, and livestock. Really glad he was home. Then see the damage - right bottom corner under 2in of sand is a stream of water just a runnin...busted seal. Well after countless hours of clean up and getting some heaters and power heads goin for livestock I got the tank and stand out, ran over to lfs to find a 56gal column on sale with stand included. Which I settled on since a new 55 is wider than my existing stand and was twice as much. Spent the 4th setting up and able to get everyone back safely adjusted last night. Still have to re-do the sump setup as the stand is limited on room below, but everything seems to be still alive and swimming...
After rocks in and letting water / sand settle before putting fish in-

Yes new light has been ordered and will be here Mon/Tues next week since the old 48" is a lil large.
If it had to happen guess its better now than later as it was only 4 months old with 3 fish and cleaning crew, but now have to repopulate my pods since I am pretty sure I lost a lot.
Fyi: cooler worked great as temporary tank and keeping water temp consistent.

Yikes! Nice catch, here's hoping to a non-bumpy recovery.

Wow I'm glad your roommate was home. Keep us updated and post some new pics. Good luck with it

By the way, what kind of tank did you have and was it used?

Yea I was really glad he noticed cuz it could have been real bad walking in on it 3 hours later.
55 gal rectangle and yea I believe I was the third owner in the family. It was still in good condition but 4 months I guess was its limit.

+1 On an ice-chest/cooler being a good emergency storage place. I learned this during hurricance season 2005 (Katrina/Georges). Now during hurricane season the first storm in the gulf means the QT tank gets transferred to an ice chest and stays that way until after hurricance season. I'm happy your roomate was there and also had enough intuition to move everything.

Wow really could have been a disaster. Happy to hear that roommate was there was there and able to react.

Thank god ur roommate was there and knew what to do...I had a tank leak and my brother just put towels down. Good luck with the recovery process.

wow very nice roomate you have there thinking on his toes. glad to here everything is doing well

Nice to hear that everything is fine. Thanks for the tip about the cooler.

Well everything seems to be recovering. Thinking of upgrading circulation fans from multi-hydors to a single mp10. My overflow is set up on right side of tank towards the rear. Would the single mp10 about mid level on opposite side get the job done? Not really sure with tank being only 30 in wide and 2 ft deep, if it would create to much flow or leave some dead spots in the corners...any thoughts?

Your roommate is a keeper! Glad to hear you were able to setup a new tank and your livestock is recovering.

You might be able to get away with the one mp10.
