I am trying to plan a large display for our living room. I had planned on an SCA150 along the wall here. Now that we have new couches, I think the 24" width is too much into the walkway. I thought of an SCA112 because the 18" would be better for space.

Now I'm wondering about custom build tanks. Maybe one to run the length of the wall which is about 7'. Or should I do a custom corner tank that would have more depth and maybe 5-6' of glass across the front.

Here are some pictures of the space. Let me know your thoughts!

Also I had extra support added to this location when we built the house, so no issues there :)

What about a large cube tank in the corner, like a 4x4 or something
I thought of that, but not sure I would like the corner seam sticking out in the middle of view. That's why I was thinking corner tank with flat glass across the angle of the front.

I say it's time to find smaller couches! Seriously though, I go for the custom 7' long. I think it will look better IMO. Nice floors man.
I know! I told my wife we were trading for a loveseat on that side. I am leaning towards that, would be good swimming length for active fish. Also more lighting required for coral ;Greedy this is going to be a huge jump from my nuvo 20 either way.

In hindsight, I wish I would've gone for a built in peninsula where that wall is so I could view from dining room as well. That would've been awesome.
A reciprocating saw will solve that "hindsight" issue for you [emoji23].

A 7' tank sounds nice though.

So maybe 80 x 18 x 30 that's approx 175 gallons. Would probably need a custom sump as well. Would run a long one in the stand and fit a decent size refugium. I'll have to get a quote on both of those.

I like the idea of a longer tank better too. SCA had good prices last time I got a quote from them.

30 wide and 18 tall?

If the wall is 7 foot, I think aesthetically, a 5 foot tank would look better and be more functional than a longer one. You don't want to narrow that walk way with the couch there, and you want room on the wall on each side of the tank. Tanks that take up the entire available space are the difference between rooms that are dominated by the tank, or where the tank seems to fit into the room. I also prefer it to a corner tank.

18 wide and 30 tall. If I don't do the full wall length, I'll probably stick with the sca 112 which is 60" long 18" wide and 24" tall.
I've never been a fan of having less than 24" in the tank from front to back. Less space for the aquascape and visual depth.

Totally a personal choice though!

I ordered a few custom sized aquariums from SCA and the prices and build were excellent.

I agree, I am trying to convince my wife to sell the couch we just bought and get a loveseat.... then I could do 24". She's not a fan of my argument though....;Shifty

Haha got it.

So reciprocating saw is not an option to remove part of that wall???

I went with 30" wide... and shallow. Just like the form.

Never liked narrow 'strip' aquariums, no depth just limits the look too much.

That's a negative!

I agree, that's also why I had considered a corner style. Would give it good looking depth. If I go that route, I may try for a lagoon look.
