Hey reefers,
Posting to get thoughts on converting a standard 90 rectangle into a drop off.

Thinking about essentially building the drop off inside the tank. Using box construction from glass/acrylic, then siliconing the box inside the tank. Current tank is glass.

Thoughts?

Otherwise my thought is to build from scratch.

I faced the same decition. Decided to build from scratch dont make the same mistakes did. Modify. Im not finised so i can onlyy share my experiance so far. buy your glass local so if theres a problem you dont have to pay shipping if its wrong have them bevel and polish the edges. Not only are the tolerances tighter but its less susceptible to chiping and cracking and im told holds a better bond. I wish i had bought a tank and modified it. Good luck cant wait to see what you do

So here's a general idea for the box and support to be siliconed in.

Wondering if this would want to be water tight or not.

The benefit of building would be having the glass shop drill the holes for the future sump plumbing

Therealplexig has a thread called glass tank build? I can hellp. Good place for questions. Were you planning a shadow overflow. Dimond hole saws work real well. Its alot less scarry after the first one

For a custom build I was going to do a smaller less steep version of this tank.

This is my exact plan for my next tank, probably a year or 2 off. I’ve considered a build from scratch, but I don’t want my first test making a tank be a complex one... holding that much water.
