I have an interesting question.
While removing green algae can that water be filtered and recycled back into the sump? If not why not?
I was planning on filtering using floss and 100 micron socks. Or
Filtering floss, 100 micron socks and polishing filter pad which is also 100 microns.
I was hoping to save on buying water.

Green hair algae? If so, yeah. You can siphon out the water with the gha into your sump (other container if you have no sump) and use a filter sock to catch the gha pieces.

I do this when vacuuming my sand. Flip the filter sock inside out, pick out any works or other critters I want to add back to the tank. I just clip a filter sock to my sump to catch everything nasty.
