Hello all, this thing is old but still works. Would this be useful as a return pump for a large wall tank?

Any idea how much water it moves?

R75A-C. - 10.5 amps, .75 HP

Found this today as a freebie. Curious.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking!

I figure if I plugged the air line it would just move water like crazy!

I see this is a very old thread but I'm curious, did you use it? I mentioned in my build the other day I had planned on using a washing machine motor and well pump. This worked!
Then I came across a dishwasher motor and pump less noise and it also works. I've found that pumps compareable to these in GPH are several hundred bucks.
I like saving where I can.
I know most people use submersible pumps but I used to rebuild electric motors and water pumps, generators, gear boxes, I worked in an industrial motor shop. These submersible pumps aren't as solid when it comes to internal components IMO.
Is there an advantage I'm just missing here?

I think pumps like your talking about are used for a purpose for a short amount of time, and not meant to run 24/7 for 10+ years. Just guessing though.

I did not use it, my tank had some Abyzz pumps I am utilizing. Sorry I am not more help!

You would be correct there in most cases. Spot on. If the motor is a brushed (dc) motor it wouldn't last anytime at all.
In some appliances like an a.c. central cooling unit a single phase a.c. motor without brushes can be used. Hard to find though. So if I come across one, I keep it for sure. They usually do not have any speed adjustment and run at a constant 3600 rpm. It is hard to mod.
