So I have been battling red algae for quite some time now and have read quite a few threads on here but thought I would see if giving my tank stats helped my situation at all. I have have all issues but those were a few weeks ago and I have had algae problems for months. I did just add about 1 liter of matrix about a month ago to help combat some nitrate issues. See the video below for the algae and my setup info.

S.G : 1.025
Alk: 11.8dKH
cA: 540ppm (I know this is high. I've just been trying to lower it with water changes)
MG: 1380ppm
N03: 0
Ammonia: 0
Phosphates: always read 0
TDS: 0
Temp: 78-79. But I was on vacation this past week and turned my thermostat up so the tank did hit 81 during the day. I just tuned this down to be 77-78
Lights: 8T5 24 watt. Just replace a month ago. The old ones were 9 months old
Water Changes are done bi-weekly in 10 gallon increments with 1/2 being Red Sea reef crystals and 1/2 being instant ocean. I was having really high alk issues so I have started to switch to instant ocean and am doing this until my reef crystals are out. When I do a water change I vacuum out as much from the sump as I can and then vacuum up red algae from the DT until I have siphoned out the 10 gallons.

I have tried using red slime remover but it didn't seem to help this last time a couple weeks ago. Thoughts?

What was the problem you had. And how did you treat it?

what kind of power heads you have for water flow? reduce lighting.

i would treat with a red slime, and kill the lights for a day or two. as well as siphon out any you can get.

after that reduce the light time.

For powerheads I have 2 gyre xf130s. They are running at like 70% or so in a single forward mode. heres what I'll try:
1. Treat with red slime remover tonight and then
2. Kill the lights for 2 full days (turn them back on Sunday)
3. Perform 10 gallon water change on Sunday and remove red slime that I can

I have the same problem so im dosing with bacter clean m, been doing in for 2 1/2 weeks working real slow and a lot off vacuum the water and rocks but it does work ,i don't want to turn my lights completely off for days concerns about losing corals

There are a lot more effective ways to rid yourself of cyano.
A black out , flow , etc is really just a band aid. It doesn't remove the cause.

Welcome to reed2reef btw.

Is almost done it all started whit high nitrates and bad rodi water, but my cheto is growing back like crazy so i think that will help a lot

Yup. That's a solid way to go.
