Hey guys,

A few questions:

1) Can you please help me ID this algae? I think it is red cyano but I honestly am a newb so I have no real idea...

2) How do I get rid of this safely?

3) It appears to be growing around my corals. Is this going to be harmful? If you look its right next to my favia war coral...

I had brown cyano last week. I recently added a HOB refuge with some chaeto in it since. The red algae started around the same time if not a little bit after the brown cyano.

siphon it out, and solve the nutrient issue that's allowing it to grow. Could be low flow and settled detritius, or nitrates and phosphates. good luck!

It takes awhile but I've gotten rid of cyano by cutting down on my feeding, syphoning it out of the tank, doing consistent WCs weekly,(like 10%, best if done by-weekly in 5% increments) and cutting down on the light cycle a little. It can take a month or so but you should definitely see an improvement.

I just now changed out my chemipure elite bag. It was 7 months old. Do you think that will help?
