Red Algae Problem

So I've noticed that in my tank there is red algae growth.. I'm not sure what causes this however i can say that it wasn't a worry to me until tonight. You see recently there has bin a small trace amount of this red algae in my tank but tonight i noticed there was a lot in my refugium so i cleaned it out the best i could.. Can anyone tell me what is causing this and how to stop it from happening.

Um. Why would you clean algae from your Refugium?
