All hornets have alternating skirts, if they don't have then it's not hornets. The only zoas that I see they look exactly like blue or purple hornets is "blue macaw".
Red hornets has red skirt.
Blue and purple look pretty much the same but blue hornets has white dot in the middle while purple hornets don't. Hope it helps.
