Red bubble tipped algae?? Fish store said it was an anemone??

Hi everyone Has anyone seen this before? It is like red bubble tipped algae or something. It started growing off a piece of live rock. It is firm to the touch but will move when I touch it (like firm jello) . Seems like it is almost branching and it is spreading across the edge of the rock. The tips glow red under the blue lights. The local fish store said it was an anemone. No way lol. Does anyone know what it is?? Thanks for the help

The fact the LFS assumed an anemone just tells you it’s not one, I don’t know what anemones they’re getting however that is most certainly an algae of some sort, I’ve never seen anything like it though but from the red tips I would say red bubble algae it’s just putting me off that the “stalk” is a clear-ish white

Hey thanks for the reply. I thought it was algae as well. It just doesn't really match the pictures I can find for red bubble algae because of the colorless "stalk". It seems to start off with one point and the divides almost to like a T. Those red tips really glow neon also under the blue light. Do you know if red bubble algae glow?

I wish I could tell you if red bubble algae glows but even through all 13 years of being in this hobby I’ve never had to combat it, I’m very sorry

It’s alright! I’ll keep looking into it and trying to find out the specific type of algae it is and if I find anything about it I’ll let you know!

Do you mean that it moves like jello when touched, or that it actively moves (as in retracts) when disturbed?

No it doesn't retract. It's firm but not solid.. it bends at little when I push it.

It’s definitely this, what put me off from saying this originally was the washed out stem however I looked deeper and found pictures of this algae with clear stems

I think you are right !!! Mine is just not quite as red yet. It is the right shape at the top and everything. Thank you! Looks like a good algae to have!! When I saw this picture posted below it looked almost the same. Thank you to everyone for all your help!! Much appreciated

I’d love an algae like that to pop up in my tank, but no it’s just annoying Cyano, bubble, and diatoms
