Well I have red bugs and I guess I had them for a while cause most corals I have gotten in the past year have been frags and have dipped every coral before it ever touch my tank so don't know were they came from. Here is what I'm doing I'm gonna let it be all my corals are healthy no signs of stress colors are great and growth is perfect so I'm gonna keep and eye and document what I can. I really don't think they are a problem I think people just freak out cause they see little pods crawling around the coral.

So your experiment is to do nothing??? LOL

Give it time and you will notice that they will begin to aggrevate certain corals(smoothskin) to where they lose PE and some color. They are nowhere near as bad as having AEFW, but they can be easily treated in the tank with interceptor. So I would just do that and nip it in the bud early, rather than allowing them to multiply.

In tank treatment meds:Sentinel ® Tablets for Dogs (Brand)by Novartis

I found a thread on the other site and they even looked at them under a scope and they didn't eat the coral also what I notice is that they don't stay in the coral long they move around and also notice that they spend most of the time on green sps's my polyp extension is the greatest I ever had. Also if you have prove that they affect the coral then share it here till this day I have not seen a thread of red bug affecting an sps all I see is people trying to get rid of them also have read that when they do get rid if then Some how AEFW become more noticeable could it be that this bug has a symbolic relationship on the wild with sps's who knows but I'm keeping them lol my tank is not suffering from them I guess we will see. My experiment is to keep track of how the corals do growth, color ect

So far so good all acros are healthy colorful and great polyp ext and growing at a fast rate I know is to early to say but I am convince that red bugs do not affect the coral. One thing that I know is that they hate high flow

Following along. I know this is your local club forum but I've had red bugs for at least the past year and haven't done anything about them either.

I had it maybe two years ago. I treated the whole tank with the med for pet's heart worm. it worked very well, and I've never seen it again.
It's very easy to treat. :)

It effects the PE a lot, I'd suggest you treat it, or you can get a dragonface pipefish to eat them.

here's the before and after pic I took when I had it.

Ok a question to all the so called red bug experts why all my corals are extremely colorful and having PE how come I don't see any damage or growth stoppage I mean I have a neon green granulosa that you can see the bugs on it and it's one of the brightest corals on my tank and showing great PE am I missing something here. Could it be that I keep my corals healthy and they tolerate them I dose seachem fuel twice a week and stronium and potassium maybe that is a helper I don't know. Seachem fuel has almost all the trace elements plus aminos I dose 2 cap twice a week of fuel, 2 caps twice a week of potassium and 1 cap twice a week of stronium also dose mb7 I cap per 50 gallons once a week which is called continum bacter m now. I think I'm gonna let them be also an other observation I notice was that they go through stages some weeks you see more than others don't know if there is something eating them but there behavior is weird
