seems like i have red bugs in my tank and need to perform the in-tank treatment. I have also found that DFS carries interceptor for dogs. But my question is that the research I have done so far indicates that 1 tablet of inceptor = 1 gram, which contains 23 mg of milbemycin oximebut. What DFS carries is the "23mg interceptor". Therefore, can I assume that 1 tablet has 23 mg of milbemycin oxime? Can i therefore safely assume that it's enough to treat my 40B tank multiple times?

also if someone can tell me how to get interceptor that would be great. apparently i need a prescription for it and my local vet clinic cannot give me one

you have to work with a vet to get it or order it in bulk from china. It is about $400 a gram from china.

Order interceptor spectrum from an Australian pharmacy Takes about five days to get here and won't break the bank, also don't need a scrip.

Also, get the large dog chews...then use what you need for your size tank and safe the rest.

so i'm looking at the following link,. is it safe to use? it doesn't say that it's 100% milbemycin oximebut. a quick search indicates that its active ingredients are milbemycin + praziquantel. I also did a search on R2R and there was a thread in 2010 that states that praziquantel is not safe for in-tank treatment.

You can use interceptor spectrum using the same protocol and dosing you see for interceptor. I've used it, and several other people have. The dosage of prazi is very small and you can expect to see similar results and symptoms to most people who have catalogued their interfeptor red big treatment.

You'll see a hit to your pod population, along with worm population from the prazi, some corals will be mad, some may be at risk as with any in tank treatment. Your pods and worms will bounce back fine, your snails, and hermits will seem drunk but should make it. Acro crabs will all die from the interceptor.

It worked very well for me though.

A small food for thought, be ready to treat for aefw after you eliminate the redbugs. You can verify this through some research of anecdotal claims, but a lot of people see aefw explosions after eliminating redbugs. I postulated several years ago that perhaps the redbugs eat aefw eggs (or aefw) and keep them in check. Or some other Unknown microorganism that get knocked out by the interceptor. Since the aefw survive the interceptor treatment and their predators are gone, they might proliferate if you have them.

I got mine here a while back. I got the large dog chews... I think its 1 chew per 300 gallons if I remember right. I crushed up a half a pill each time in a baggie (I have about 150 gallons TWV)... added the powder to a small cup of saltwater... and dumped it near a power head. Worked great haven't had them since.

In the past when I had redbugs I explained to my vet what I was going to use interceptor for and brought some supporting literature from the web and they had no problem giving me a few tablets.

yeah, I tried that multiple times and no luck. I think it's partly because I don't have other pets

Do you have a dog? If so, establish a different vet. I bought online at Valley Vet . com and they call your vet for you to approve a script for it. My vet approved it and didn't even call to ask why i was ordering it or anything. They just assumed I wanted it for my dog.
