So my friend took his sps to a vet since he was losing them. The vet diagnosed red bugs. Any other way that the prescription method and what can we do to completely get rid of these pests.

Red bugs are a paiinnnn, i acually have black bugs now Nd unfortunantly have to do the interceptor treatment. Im not sure of any other treatments(edit. Interceptor worked like a charm the last 2 treatments i did a while back so i suggest you give it a shot)

I've also heard of folks pulling all their SPS and dipping in the Bayer bug killer with good results, requires several treatments. Just a PITA or not possible if your's are glued down or have encrusted.

i thought interceptor was off the the shelves since 2012 yet everyone still recommends it...??

Interceptor, make it easy. You can order it on line from some companies in Canada.

Or buy sentinel it's replacement. Quick search there are a ton of threads out there on it.

I would say just take them out and dip with bayer once a way for 8 weeks, and that should get rid of any bugs.
In my almost 10 years of reef experiences, I had faced with acro flatforms and all kind of other bugs a few times.
I think bayer is the easiest of rid of any bugs and it's cheap and safe.

Did you eradicate your black bugs?

I had a vet prescribe intercepter to me for red bugs, I mean they didn't diagnose it, I just told them the issue and they trusted me. I also had paperwork (melevs write up) on-hand just in case, so they could read about it a bit and make a more informed decision on declining me; thankfully it didn't come to that. :D

Im not 100% sure, but all my montis are fine now. Still to this day have no idea what they were, but had a taste for montis =)
Before I tore my system down from the black bugs I actually seen these bugs embedded in a healthy digitata skeleton. Craziest thing I've seen to date with these buggars.

Yep thats why they are terrible, maybe i had the same issue as you, they would burrow in the skeleton and wouldnt come out in a dip other then getting heavy with lugols

I have a theory. I think when we dip sps they put out their slime coat which is their way of protecting themselves. I believe the slime is in essence protecting the bugs from the dip itself. Just my theory tho.
