Red Bugs?? Have you had them?

FYI it doe's too eventdently you dindnt dip long enough it will kill pretty much any invert including acro crabs and teddy bear.

i've heard that it will kill them, but only if you leave it in a really long time.....in which it really stresses out the coral.

10-15min will apparently only "stun" the red bugs....FWIW.

Yup. Easiest to kill, so not even a real concern for me (treated the tank a couple of months ago). Incoming now all get an overnight Interceptor dip, followed by TMPCC. AEFW's on the other hand give me the willies. Frags go straight to the trash if they have any signs of those nasty buggers...

You can do it in a small tank like a 5 gal or 10 gal or in a 5 gallon bucket. All you need is some tank water and a small heater.

I also did an overnight dip on a few frags. I put mine into a bucket and used an air pump to agitate the water surface. After that I put them into another bucket of water from my tank with a power head and light and did another overnight dip a couple days later. The interceptor worked great for me. I should add that there were no redbugs found on the frags after the first dip however I was making sure I missed none.....so i dipped them the second time. Also I used a 100 watt heater but that was the smallest I had lying around.

3 hours into treatment, almost exactly.

I didn't crop this one quite as tight as the first, but it is still fairly OBVIOUS that I don't have the same number of critters as before.

Am I missing something here. It looks like the last post was in 2008 yet the thread is on top of my home page. Anyhow, I have red bugs currently and don't really care. I am keeping a close eye on a coral that I found a couple AEFW's on though. I lived with those horrible things for a year and a half and don't really want to do that again.

I had them a few years back before I started to dip new corals or even really know about pest. Spoke with my vet and got a prescription for Interceptor (the ones that break down to powder), followed the protocol at the time and got rid of them permanently. I still have plenty of Interceptor left, just encase.

Had them and it was pretty easy to get rid of them. i was able to remove all the acros and put them in a q-tank and treated that tank with interceptor. Just have good flow in the tank as they slime. Works great. I have not had them in over a year now.

I know this thread is old but I thought the protocol was to do in tank treatments, in case there are free floating bugs in your tank. I wouldn't suggest this to rid a tank of redbugs just incoming new corals.

I had them too about 7 months ago. I did 3 weekly tank treatment with Interceptor Spectrum pulled crabs and shrimp out and did 20% waterchange and carbon after 24 hours and no more red bugs. Killed all the pods too but red bugs all gone. Now I dip all new corals in Bayer.

I have always dipped all my corals..... Mostly with bayer. However, I have still got red bugs. Luckily, this seems to be one pest that is easily forgotten about with just three interceptor doses spaced a week apart. I followed melevs treatment.....
I would disagree that they are not visible to the naked eye because I have seen them on my corals before with just my eyes.....as mentioned many times before they seem to enjoy the smooth skinned acros the most as was the case with me as well. I found if you kill all flow in your tank then they will come out and move around more on the corals.....
