I have a 550 gallon system that has a slight case of red bugs. Interceptor is the cure, I hear. Does anyone know the dosage?

I would do at least 2.5 tabs (large). It would be fine to even do more. When I treat my tank periodically (I just do it preventively) I turn my skimmer off for about 12 hours. When I turn the skimmer back on, I do a large water change and run a lot of carbon.

Thank you, Is it true you have to do this three weeks in a row to get all eggs and young?

Yes, you do need to do this week weeks in a row. Dorton's origanal treatment called for .025 g per 10 gal of actual water voulme for 6 hrs. This would be done with interceptor for large dogs 50-100 lbs.

Since than other studies have shown that 12 hrs at 10x Dortons dosage gives better results. Personaly I have use both and perfer the second.

Also don't forget to do 25% water changes after each treatment and lots of carbon. Good luck!

isnt using this treatment detrimental to the inverts in your tank? wouldn't doing this cause problems do to the dying off of all the very small organisms that benifit the tank?

Yes, IME I have had so invert make it though all treatment, but if you want to save them, you need to remove them. I also have had pods after all three treatment a week later, so not all inverts will be lost. This is way you need to do the water changes and run the carbon. Heavy skimming between treatment is also good.

I am big on the recommended 3 treatments, I am worried that a drug resistant strain will emerge from not treating the course of 3-4 weeks.

You need to remove shrimp and crabs before dosing. I dosed my 90g 3 different times over 3 weeks (or whatever the recommended procedure was). Red bugs gone... tank fine.
