Hello! I just bought my first coral...and they have been dipped and are in a small QT. However, I've noticed red bumps on my candy cane coral...searching around doesn't seem to address this one that I have. Any idea??

Looks like Coraline spots similar in appearance to Nectria cinnabarina found on trees

Would it be possible to get a clearer pic? From what I can see they appear to be benthic foraminiferans. Possibly Rotaliida sp. If so, they are harmless filter feeders. You can scrape them off if you wish.

Here's another variety for comparison. These are Globothalamea. Ignore the tube worms. Just the red parts are the organisms I'm listing.

Here are some close ups and another shot on the other side....also see some pinkish blob on the lower right too.

Yup, those sure look like formanifera. The pinkish blob may be another variety of formaniferan known as Homotrema rubra. Is it also hard to the touch?

Fascinating!! Yes, I just touched the "blob" and it's hard...so looks like you nailed the ID for these things! Glad they aren't a pest/issue. Thank you and everyone else too!
