thanks. Am I supposed to do water changes for the marine aquarium? Would it involve adding more salt ? I never change my water, just top up as it evaporates.. I figured if i remove 1/4th water, and then just top up using regular filter water, my salinity would decrease .. right ?

It's a good idea to do periodic water changes. Most do at least one per month. This would also give you an opportunity to siphon out the cyano. But you will need to pre-mix the new saltwater before using it. I let mine circulate for at least 24 hrs in a vat. Honestly, if you aren't doing water changes then that's probably the #1 reason why you have cyano in your tank... too many nutrients i.e. dirty water.

good idea, i think i will change about 25 percent of my water with the help of the guy from the fish store.. also he is getting me some new fish , 2 azure damsels, and 1 dr wrasse.. so now i have 2 tangs, 1 fire clown, 1 anemone, 1 blue finned damsel, 1 humbug damsel, and the three he will be getting me.. are those enough fish for the 75 gallon 6 month old tank i have ? or can i put more? all the fish are small to medium in size..

also will try siphoning up the red slime with the tube he is getting.. so once i siphon out the bacteria, i shouldnt add the water back again right? or can i filter it somehow and add it back again after removing the red slime from it ??

I would dump the old water. I wouldn't reuse it. Just make sure the new water has been thoroughly mixed with salt before using it. I personally like to wait at least 24 hours.

About those damsels... I know they seem cute and harmless. But they will grow up to be little terrors who will mess with all your other fish.

If you have plants in the house or a yard or lawn you could use the old water on that instead of throwing it out.
If your getting more fish i would really think about the Golden Head Goby. Not expensive and a very hard worker. He is always moving my sand all day long to the point it annoys me because I don't like to keep corals on the floor with all the sand falling on them. Seriously look into it.
Also you 100% need to be doing water changes at least 1 time a month. 25% is a good percent if your not going to be heavy on the corals.

I just went through this a couple of weeks ago. I used Chemiclean Aquarium Treatment and it worked great. Whatever you do, the end result is that you need to get rid of the phosphate in your tank. That's what is causing the Cyanobacteria. Good luck.
