Just recently over the last couple of weeks red cyano has popped up throughout my system on every other rock. I've changed the flow, taken the lights off for 24 hrs, and double checked the sump for any build up of excess. With all this, no luck. Other than siphoning it (not sure how well this will work with the rock setup I have, too many holes) or trying red slime remover (not a prefered method of mine), I'm losing my cool! Any ideas before it gets to my other monti caps (lost 1 frag)????

125 Long, 29 sump
250 mh 14k x 3
160 vho atinic x 2
100 lbs of mixed marco and live rock
2.5 inch sandbed
1 black tang, 2 picasso clowns, CUC of mixed snails and red and blue hermits, mystery and flame wrasse
Mixed corals of mainly sps and a few lps
Lights on 7.5 hrs (MH on 6.5, Vho on 7.5, moon lights throughout except during regular cycle)
Flow= 4000 gph in main, 400 gph in sump
Seachem phos guard and carbon in sump

Nitrates=0
Nitrites=0
Phos= 0
Amm=0
Cal=500
Alk=10.5
Temp= 78

Feeding a mix of omega flakes every other day (about a pinch or enough) mixed with nori and roger's reef blend every 4th feeding

What is the tds of your mixing water (before mixing)? I start to get cyano when my RO membrane has been used past it's useful life and starts to drop in performance.

The mb7 will help suffocate the cyano by providing different strains of bacteria!

I cured mine with increasing mg. Mine was low and once I increased it, it went away. I feed more now than before.

I was feeding heavy, and have recently had an outbreak. I fed less and used microbe lift special blend and after 2 doses it is almost all gone. It was explained to me that it is a bacterial imbalance and the microbe lift will balance things out.

seriously, Chemi-clean is a miracle-worker with red cyano. Literally disappears within hours and doesnt come back. Make sure you do the 20% water change after the treatment like it says on the label. Used it on a tank filled with SPS and it worked perfect.

Looked this method up tonight. Might be the way to go. I'll check my levels.
