Bought a small frag of Red Dragon from a local reefer the other weekend. It's doing fine, but was I kind of guessing when I placed it towards the top of my tank. What's the recommended lighting and flow for this SPS?

If you want it to look like a strong red and still grow go medium in tank. It will get lighter as it gets more light thats how you can tell.

Thanks for the tips. I may move it down a bit. Want a stonger red. Not as concerned about growth. Any other opinions?

Also, does Red Dragon get much polyp extension? Mine hasn't been all that great so far.

By the way, photos would be great!

I have my frag five inches off the bottom straight under my 250w halide. It's getting some deep red not much PE though.

+1 to lower light, but high flow. The polyps on my frag are very small and clear so very hard to see.

I have every color the only one that shows real PE during the day is green/purple. They all come out at night but they are small.

I also have mine %" off bottom but under L.E.D. It has a great red color and also not much PE

Just following along, this will be my next target for my tank. Is the Red Dragon more picky than a a regular SPS, is it hard to take care of.

I find it is pretty resilient and can take some water parameter abuse compared to other SPS. The branches are very fine so it is fragile and breaks easily

IME, it prefers lower light levels. I have placed it many different locations and have had the least success in higher light. Currently all my RDs are kept in aprox 50-75 PAR(LED)and grow well.
As for PE all I can say is feed RN Oyster feast, polyps pop out every time I feed w/ it

Mine does best in low light with high flow. I've got it on the sandbed and it has good coloration and growth.
