Before we get all uppity let me say that this fish was sold to me as a scooter blenny at the time i had no idea what a dragonet even was all i know is that this poor fish was pretty much dying at my LFS he was completely emaciated and it made me sad so i bought him (not cheap either lol). After a bit of research it became brutally apparent that these fish need space to roam and plenty of live rock as their diet pretty much consists of only pods and mine wont eat from the tongs, no mysis no flakes straight pods. the fish had no gut when i got him and very little color. its been about 4 months now give or take and hes a huge fatty, he got all his color back including some new colors and hes the spunkiest fish i have i absolutely adore him/her my tank was overrun with pods when i put him in and hes been doing work ever since. Once i realized exactly what this fish was, as i am still new and this is my first reef, i realized that my tank is waaaay too small but i have one lfs in my area and i wont take him back there. i am working on a 75g upgrade but it will not be ready until February. so, to the point, i still have an abundance of pods amphipods small med and large and plenty of copepods especially in the fuge and he is still putting on weight so i am wondering if it would be horrible to keep him until the upgrade, basically another 4 months, he seems happy is extremely active and well fed and hes the only livestock i have eating pods the clowns wont touch them not sure why and my pep shrimp eats pellets and aptasia only. I just want to make sure i am not missing anything here he looks great acts great a model citizen really but looks can be deceiving and i don't want to miss anything here with my newb eyes so if anyone has any suggestions or ideas or if there are any members in az with a large enough tank that could take him off my hands ( as much as it kills me to do it) i would really appreciate it. i just want to do right by the fish and as happy and well fed as he seems everything i have read about dragonets says 50g or larger with lots of LR no exceptions. so really any input would be appreciated i would like to make this work until the upgrade but not at his expense. I've watched him very closely over the last 30 days to make sure he eats because i figured hes gotta be running low at the rate he eats and i would say he eats a pod every 3-4 secs from the time sunrises till about 2 hours before lights out then he dives in the sand and sleeps leaving only his eyes exposed. like i said before it was my little nano or death so in the spirit of keeping things alive lol do you think he can make it another 4 months? Tanks 10 gallons 9lbs Lr and a 4 gallon sump with a DSB caulerpa cheato and some LR, any input will be greatly appreciated =)
