Short verion:

-are starfish all hard and stiff like?
-is exposure to air, mind just a sliver of a second or two, detrimental to a starfish?

More info:

I just purchased this little guy yesterday. He was exposed to air very, very briefly, but has been moving, albeit very slowly, around the tank all day today. I was very concerned about this as my LFS said not to expose it to air whatsoever, and as it happens as I was trying to put him in the acclimation bucket he got stuck in his bag for a few seconds sans water.
Additionally, when I used tweezers to move him to a better spot from where he fell when added to the tank, he felt rather hard. Very stiff and hard, he moves of course, but wasnt...fleshy? If I'm making any sense. Thanks!!

Yeah, fromia and some other stars are stiff feeling. Doesn't mean anything.

I've had my Blue Linckia almost 4 years. I've briefly exposed him to air twice. Once when I got him, and once when I moved about a year ago. I don't think that harms them.

Oh awesome! Thanks guys! I was a bit concerned. I also did t realize how slow the little guys are haha. Any tips for keeping them? I've heard they can be difficult. Do they only eat the biofilm or will they take frozen?

I never feed mine directly but my tank is very mature with sponges and a lot of life on them. I heard you can feed them a little piece of shrimp when they climb up on the glass but I never did

Thank you for the info. I have a lot of sponges growing too. My tank is only 9 months old though. LFS said that was a good time to add a star.

Commenting because I'd like to see if there's any further commentary on feeding.

But I just got one a bit less than a month ago. It was exposed to air twice and is still chugging along. I thought they were the most fragile thing in the world so I really panicked when the vendor was so casual when handling it.
