Thought I should post a thread about attempting starfish, specifically of the genus Fromia, since there isn't much info online.
A week ago I added a Fromia Starfish, specifically Fromia Indica. I had previously tried a Fromia Milleporilla 2 years ago with less than optimal results. Improper acclimation (I used the cup method in less than 30 minutes) was probably the reason why it crumbled and died. It lasted 3 months.
This time I bought the starfish from the LFS by observing its movement and choosing the most healthiest and active one in the tank. Most of the other Fromia were dying and are long gone by now. They had Linkias which were also dying. So far mine is still okay thankfully.
I acclimated for 4 hours on a drip. In those 4 hours I dumped half the bag's water every hour which was replaced by the tank water. By the end of the 4 hours the SG matched and I then took the bag and let the bag float in the tank for temp acclimation for 20 minutes. After that the starfish went into the tank.
I'll post a pick later once the lights come on and will post parameters too.
