Red Fungus or Algae on Acropora?

Hey all -

Forgive me, as I’m somewhat new to SPS. Picked up this Miyagi Tort (I believe) a couple of months ago.

I dipped in Revive, but it’s had almost this red-velvet-looking algae or almost looks like a fungus growing on it.

I can suction some off, but it grows right back. Hard to get a good pic, but any ideas?

Turn your whites up/ get a better pic

Is it actually on the coral flesh itself? or growing out of a dead spot? it looks like a lil bit if macro algea but again, need better pics if you can!

Good call! It’s in a tough spot to get a great pic, but here are the whites. I thought it was maybe a broken tip repairing, as it seems to be on the flesh itself?

Personally if not identifiable, I would remove it

So I pulled it out, dipped (to be safe), and removed. Looks like it’s was some sort of macro algae or something. But the area underneath was definitely broken and darker, almost grey. Wondering if it’s just a dead piece?
