I have a 10-gallon tank being run over by red hair algae (I think) been set up for over a year now. I used to fight green hair algae but now just red hair. I was thinking about getting a UV sterilizer does this sound like a good idea? I bought 3 snails yesterday to try to help the problem but I think it might be too big of a job for them.

Sorry, that doesn't look at all like red hair algae. On the sand it looks like diatoms or a bacteria bloom and on the glass it looks more like dinos.

Don't buy a UV until you know for sure what it is.

Agreed with above looks more a long the lines of diatoms mixed with Cyano/Dinos. Posting your water parameters will give us a better educated guess along the lines of what’s going on.

I agree. I had to battle that 2nd month in. If you treat it, BE SURE to keep the O2 high in the tank. many of the treatments deplete the O2. You can lose fish if that happens. Post more parameters if possible.
