I personally use chemicals as a last resort. It is the same as giving up. Consider the health of your system as a puzzle. What piece is missing or doesn't fit? What are your parameters today?

Well, I don't have a skimmer because I was waiting to afford a really good one. Maybe it's time to bite the bullet and settle for a cheaper one until I have the extra $. I always thought they were just to remove fish waste though

Not if its in the Fuge, thats where you want it to grow. You could also throw a powerhead in there too.

I've been scooping out red globs by the handfull from my fuge. I need to try the iron dosing since i need my fuge lights on always for the pods to reproduce

you may want to try a chemiclean treatment, it only requires your skimmer to be off 1 day, but getting the chemiclean out works, only crappy part is the skimmer goes nuts for an hour after you turn it on, but it does the job it was made for.

Update.. i used Chemiclean once and it completely cleared up 2 days later. All life in the aquarium was unharmed. I do have an outbreak of pineapple sponges now, but i can't say they're related.. Thanks everyone.
