Red Hornet vs. Deep Waters

Well yes, but the point is that light changes colors.

So what makes a Red Hornet a Red Hornet? I have two different deepwater zoas, both of which display similar color patterns to the Red Hornet, although neither seems to be as bright as the pictures of Red Hornets that I've seen. I'll have to work on getting some better pictures of each of these.

Those are DEFINITELY not RH's.

Thank you - nor did I claim that they were; simply pointed out that I had two deep waters with markings similar to those of the Red Hornet; and expressed curiousity over the effect of light.

Scopus the second pic is not deep waters. In fact those are found in shallow water. I have personally seen them myself. They are nice! But not deepwater.

We just got 9 colonies of red zoos at the LFS I work at.........
I so hope one is RH's haha !

We did get some AWESOME chalices, one being that blue one with the red rim/eyes thats been coming up recently, but it's on hold :nerd:

Thanks MiddleReef - I have absolutely no doubt that much of what was sold as "Japanese Deepwater zoas", just as they were truly not from Japan, also truly were not deepwater zoas. No doubt unscrupulus vendors sold many different colonies as "deepwaters" because at the time they could get more $$ for them. As I stated earlier in the thread, I originally aquired this particular morph back in the late 90s off of a Pipe Organ coral frag, so I was pretty sure it was not a "Deepwater". Still a nice morph.

I found light makes a huge difference on the blue hornets also. If placed in low in the tank (4 x T5HO) they are retain this nice blue hue, when placed high up in the tank, they start to become almost indistinguishable to the purple hornet.

I get my RH's hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks. I cannot wait !

my blue, red and purple hornets are all 5" below the water surface under 250mh all brightly colored.

Its almost as if these are teal hornets rather teal rings..

Or orange hornets (deepwaters) that are in mid light. Taken with flash.

If the one on the left is the true red hornet then what would you call the one on the Right?

Everyone knows how purple hornets look. Red hornet and even blue hornets look just like it. Almost solid color with a ring.

Thats what I have been afraid of, and why I haven't bought any yet. If they came to me looking like the one on the left, I would be bent out of shape.
Now if the ones on the right came, I would be pretty happy :)

Nice looking morphs!

I'm looking to trade for one of these if someone with reds, like on the right, are in for a trade.
