Red Macroalgae ID

Hi all,

I have this red macroalgae growing in my tank that I can't seem to find an ID for. I quite like the look of it and my wife would like some for her tank also. Can someone please help with an ID and if there's an easy method of fragging/transplanting part of it?

Thanks for the suggestion. Is that soft? The Google image searches of it look like it would be. I should have mentioned that this is bristly like a scrubbing brush.

It could also be gracilaria, if you could get a more detailed pic of the leafs I could give you a better id

Thanks. I'll try and take a piece off tomorrow and take some photos under my cheapie microscope.

To frag it, all you have to do is snap a piece off and superglue it to a rock (out of water)

You just need to take a piece of it and possibly glue it down. Most macros don't need roots to grow like true plants. In fact, you probably won't even need to glue them down.

Here are some more photos. Apologies for the watermarks on the microscope photos. Thanks for the fragging info. I've taken a decent clump and have it back waiting in my sump at the moment as it appears all of my superglue tubes have dried out. Will head out shortly to get some more.

I've been doing some more searching and from what I can find, it looks closest to Chondria sp. I could well be wrong though.

Thanks for that. I picked up some new super glue and glued it to a piece of life rock rubble. It looks like the outer tips may have died off from the brief period of time it was out of water. It almost looks fluorescent pink instead of deep red. Hopefully it won't spread too far.
