I picked up a red mandarin for $10 and plan on training him to eat frozen. That yellow tang that photo bombed him is tiny and very skinny any tips on how to fatten him?

Looks like a green mandarin. But still a nice looking fish for 10$. You can try live baby brine shrimp for starters they love them! I bought 2 of the same mandarins 1 years apart from each other and I started blasting mysis shrimp at them during feeding time. I’m guessing they got the message and started picking at them.

I've only seen brine shrimp eggs [emoji53] at my lfs if I manage to find some big ones I'll blast them lol

Yes buy the eggs. There are YouTube videos on dyi brineshrimps hatcherys. Very very easy to make. You’ll have baby brine shrimps for your mandarin and other fishes in about 24hrs.

Is it a red mandarin or a green one?

Check out the paulb feeder, it should be considered a requirement with dragonets.

You should definitely look at getting some live foods for it. Check and see if you have a local supplier of copepods. Hatching brine will work well too.

How old is your tank and what size?

With a properly set up refugium you can get a stable population of pods in your tank.

I think your missing the point of what color the fish is, ..you should be worrying about the well being. Your tank looks really new, usually a no no for fish like a mandarin and a tang. Definitely follow the advice above to keep that mandarin fat, as for that tang you should get some nori in that tank continuously for the near future. Alongside a hefty feeding regiment. I wish you luck, and please keep us updated.

I had a ton of pods in my unoccupied tank without even knowing. I put him in there
