Red Mangrove Roots

I buried my red mangrove's roots in the 2 inch cubes of my marine pure. Is this ok? Alot of pics show the roots floating in water and I'm wondering if there is a reason for that or if my method is ok?

Also, what's the recommended amount of light?

They will take as much light as you can throw at them. They like intense light. I float my mangroves using black filter sponge. I cut a slit in the side and slid the plant into the center of the sponge. Now the roots are able to grow out into the water area.
