Red montipora flesh falling off

I recently acquired a red montipora from a friend exactly one week ago and all of the sudden, the tissue appears to be falling off. Within about six hours it is almost all white. All of my water parameters are in line and the only thing I can think of is my lighting may be different and/or stronger than his. I also read about rapid tissue necrosis and didn’t know if that was a possibility either. Not sure how to tell what the causes. I am really stumped here. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Sorry about the troubles. My first thought is to check ALK. Did you dose anything into the tank before this started? Light should not cause as rapid a change as far as I know.

I would still say list your water parameters even though you say it is fine. Also a little bit about your lights and flow could help.

Welcome! If your lighting is a lot more intense it could be the cause. They need to be acclimated to light with big changes.

You didn't happen to dip the coral in freshwater or peroxide prior to putting in your tank, did you? I melted a beautiful setosa following a peroxide dip... never again on an SPS! The flesh came off quickly just as you are describing.

No, I dipped it in revive.

Dipping may have ticked it off. Really, you need to swish in Tank or RO water and Acclimate it and then introduce under low light and moderate water flow for first few days. Generally they will let off some slime and then heal and adjust to new conditions.
Do test your alk-CA-MAG- Nitrate and Phos levels and assure the temp is 77-79 and salinity 1.025, oh 8.1-8.3 and see if any are elevated.

Welcome to REEF2REEF!!! Sorry to hear about your issues. Do you have a picture? Is it a plating monti or a branching one. With monti, you cut cut or break off any healthy parts remaining and try to place somewhere else. I like to start at the bottom or mid part of tank and acclimate upwards.
