Since getting rid of my two angels I had seen a pair of feeding tentacles for the first time since I have had it! Started encrusting finally. But I still do not have any polyp extension on it. It looks to be the polyps are on the very edge but they just do not want to poke out. It is in the middle of the tank where nothing can sting it and it gets random flow from two gyres and returns. Any tips. Pictures would also be appreciated!

I dunno I've seen some red planets that put Millie's, plana, and chips acro to shame in the PE department. Being said I've also seen plenty of fast growing excellent color acros with little to no long term PE

Is it showing polyp at night?

i never checked...i am actually going to move it since it is at the very bottom of my tank. I think I am going to put it middle to high but just gotta find the place.

If parameters are stable, the RP will thrive in most lighting. The general rule of thumb is you see more green flourescing under lower light, with deeper red color, and the higher the light, the green is less pronounced and trends more towards neon green with more pink tones and white tips. Or I should say as per my experience :) Here is mine under higher par, probably around 400 range, and mine was a hairy beast, even though not in this pic :)

I love the ways your slook. Do you mind if I ask where did you place it. High flow and high light...

So I would like some advice on where to place it. I had it on the very bottom of this photo where the blue vermic coral and key lime vermic is but I want to keep it on this main island which recieves high flow. Any suggestions. I know it tables so I know I have to be careful of where I place it. I have a huge monti cap at top which will shade once it grows more branches. Any placement Ideas is welcomed. I do have two other islands just they dont have nearly as much flow as the middle. I can show those if there is no spot on the main island. When I first had this coral I put it where the glue issmack dab in the center. Then moved it when I got new corals in but where it was currently is not doing as well as its first place position. I was thinking maybe go right of that glue glob near the end of the rockwork? Anyother places that look sutable plz lemme know. if you see nowhere suitable I can post the other two islands.

first off, I would bring down that monti on top, or you will have shading issues for future corals and personally where that big monti on top in the center is, I would place the RP below it to the shelf on the right, allowing it to grow into open space as it is a tabling acro. Cheers

Old shot, of a red planet frag with polyps out. Frag didn't make it from the alk spike in January, but pic for reference.

This post is spot on, IMO.

I have no idea where i could place that monti. It is on a big rock as well.

Well, if you keep params stable, within a year, that monti will double, and if so, more of your reef will be in the shade :) You may have to get creative here, but this is merely my opinion with larger colonies, corals do grow, and placement in sps tanks is critical from the get go :) Cheers

Also, if you remove the rock, and use a flat head screwdriver or chisel of some sort with a hammer, you can likely get under the base of the monti, then kill any remaining tissue with kalk paste or 2 part epoxy over any remaining tissue. Then you will have all sorts of space for new acros :)

I have tried before it was that big... I did a really good job of gluing it haha. Im now scared that I will break the monti which I have tried so hard not too haha.

Well here is the other islands.

So I think I found a place where that monti might fit. It is still on the middle island but it is basically on the sandbed. So basically where the hammer corals are there are two ledges which I think I can place the rock on it and have it hold. It will be very low so lighting is my question. The flow there is good so that is not an issue. Do you think the monti will still grow there? it cannot shade anything there as well. Might use that as an advantage and place the hammers so that they get some protection from the flow.

Well the tank is under construction now...I found a place I think fits the coral well will update once t is placed.
