I have recently purchased 1" frags of both the Red Planet and Pink Lemonade and am wondering where to place them in my tank.My tank dimensions are 24x24x20 50g cube with a 6x24w ATI Powermodule.I was also wondering what kind of flow do they need I have 2 MP10S in the tank and they are getting some pretty good flow hitting them. The Pink lemonades base has turned a blueish purple since placing it in the tank under the Powermodule I currently have it about 6" below the water surface and 12" below the Powermodule being that the Powermodule is 6" off the water surface and the Red Planet is 1" below the Pink Lemonade to the right both are the far end of one of the mp10s and getting hit with the butt end of the MP10s flow wich is set on reefcrest mode.Any Ideas on where I should put them and if they are getting too much light and or flow?

it really depends on the colors you want..both of those will turn green the farther you move it down....move the red planet up it turns red, move the lemonade up it turns bright yellow....i would let them settle in where they are and see what happens...

I have a frag of both and my pink lemonade is about 6 inches from the surface and doing well. I had the red planet there as well and was getting a nice red color and encrusting for a couple months and then it started turning a dark red maroon and almost browned out. I moved it down to midway in my tank and it is starting to lighten up again.

In my experience, the red planet will tell you whether or not it is getting enough flow by how much it spreads and encrusts outwardly. When it is getting enough flow, it will begin to branch in that location.

Thanks for the input fellas I will just leave them where they are and keep an eye on them. The polyps are extended on each of them but when I see pics posted on the internet they seem to be more "fuzzy" then mine look. Now that I think of it the flow in those tanks are probably turned off for the pics.

On the red planet, higher will give you a more red/pink color, lower light is where you get the green.

This is great info. I've been wondering how to get the green to pop in my Red Planet. Mine is bright red, but I have it about 6" from the surface of the water, I'll be moving my frag lower in the tank. Hopefully I can get mine to look like this one (not my pic and found on WAMAS.org):

I have better luck with the RP at lower levels to bring out the green tissue. In higher level I get a more pink/red color. As for the lemonade, I keep my high and with strong flow to get those longer polyps and a bright yellow color.

when it matures and reaches the correct par area, they will both turn into a solid color anyways. Best to start them on the bottom and move them both high up so it can branch faster instead of just encrusting and laying base IMO

IME, my RP encrusted first then started to branch out. I placed it high in my tank.

both are high with good flow and doing great rp is tabling.

Red Planet is 10" off the bottom, in a 155 bow, under 250w radiums.
