Where do you keep your red planet. I was told low, but mine is staying green and brown. I've seem a few others that are up high and have great color. Just want some more opinions. FYI: I'm running LEDs.

i got mine about a month ago that was almost 100% bleached out at a frag event. put it middle of the tank in a 75 gal under t'5s and its starting to color up nice.

When I ran ai sol blues I lost my two tone coloring of my red planet. I ran ati powermodule before. Now I am running mh and two tone coloring is back. With LEDs I never got the red and green just red no matter where I placed the coral high or low light.

I ran mine under LED's at a par around 500! Had great results, super reddish pink with green new growth!

I get great color up high under 250w halides. And it grows pretty quick, as far as LEDs are concerned I have no clue

I have mine halfway down in a 125 under 55% radions and I get green base with red polyps and pink new growth.

Medium light I get green base and red stalks. Up higher, it all bright red. All under LEDs.

mine is high middle under 250w 14k Phoenix MHs about 26" from the pendant,12" from the water surface, green base, red stalks..very pretty

Up high, med, or low?

Hi Bluejawtrigger,

Hope all is well!

TulsaTye provided some great information. Depending on tank depth and lighting, 500 par can be acquired at a low, medium, or high point in the tank. If your willing to pick up a PAR meter (I have an Apogee) you can really pin point exactly where you want your coral placed. I have mine under 420 PAR.

Edit: If you look at some of the PAR results for the type of lights you have, (it may be published) you may be able to find the perfect depth and placement for your Red Planet.

Warmest Regards,
James

I have a colony on my overflow up high and it is bright red/pink. The part of the colony that is out of direct light has alot of the green in it.

I also have another piece growing on my rock stack that is around 8 in. from the bottom of my tank and has the green through out it.

I'm running 2 119 watt led fixtures. Lighs are 12 in. above the top of the water.

I would start it out around middle of the tank. First off LEDs throw out alot more light than you think. I've seen LEDs bleach those babys out. I have mine in a standard 90 with 8 T5s in the middle and it is absolutely stunning to me. Just my .02

I have mine about 4-6" under the water surface under an AI Nano and it went from mostly red (in a buddies tank under 250w halides) to mostly green with red tips and polyps. It's almost the same color as my green slimer now! Iphone color is way off but you get the idea. This is also the side that is more shaded...it's greener on the side facing the light.
