Red planet starting to pale

Just got this frag the other week there is a small area on the base that's turning white the frag is about 6 to 8 inches below surface on a frag rack is this bleaching because of too much light? I also don't see the polyp extension it had either where should I put it?

What kind of lighting was it under before?

T5s but the lfs just changed them to t5s about 3 weeks ago was under 4 6ft vhos before that now under 3 165 w leds

Maybe put it on the sandbed and then move it up slowly. I have one that's on the sandbed still, doing fine for a few months now.

Could be bleaching from light shock. Going from t5 to LED requires light acclimation. I'd stick it lower in the tank and see if it gets better.

Don't know the par but I keep mine upper mid tank getting blasted by SB reef lights.

The OP red planet looks more green when he recieved it. To my understanding the lower light you give it The greener it gets the more light It receives the more red it gets. That being said if he originally got it mostly green it must have been lit lower in the tank or less par..... by putting it so high on a frag rack it probably really shocked it from intense light.

Have to ask , did you dip it when you got it ? light is not the only factor .Red planet loves high light I have mine right under a hydra 52 running at max power and its thriving

Yes I used coralrx and the tank I got it from it was on the sand under 8 bulb t5s about 30 or so inches

I have moved it to my sand bed frag rack it's dead center of my light

What kind of flow do you guys have it in I have a jebao rw 15 set on half pulse mode on one side and two hydor 700 constant on the other side

What do you keep your nitrates at? I ask because mine was 0 and my colors were fading. I upped the nitrates and colors are coming back.

Well they stay at 0 by the Api test on is also working on feeding more skimming less as that has been the answer to a few questions I've had lately "low nutrients" so you could be right

You'll need something better than API for nitrates. Once they start showing on API, they are probably too high. I use Red Sea pro, others like salifert.

Sps are like sports cars. Premium gas only.

Yeah I moved it to the bottom but still centered under the light but now I'm concerned about not enough flow I'll keep an eye on it though

Just keep it low for now and slowly move it up to where you want it. Let it acclimate. I would move it up a little once a week.
