Any of you have any Red Planet? What have you found to be the best placement for it. I got a frag at the swap and it has been slowly fading. It had really bright red polyps and deeper green skin. Now I don't have nearly the PE and the skin is a much more faded green.

I had it up top, and thought maybe it was getting too much light so I moved it towards the bottom. Still the same. It is growing and encrusting over the plug. Just looks bland.

Thanks
Tim

Well I would confirm levels, MAG, ALK, CAL, PH range etc..
It this the only 1 showing polyp extension issues? Poor polyp extension could be multiple possibility. Water quality/params off, pests, flow, lights. Light is probably the issue in this circumstance but check the others

I know I have mine a bit to high, wish it was mid level.

I will tell you from my experience I put mine dead center top. Was doing great with deeper red and green. I was doing some light level testing(really should get someone to test my par) on my tank(increasing blues and white over period weeks/months LED). Anyways the increase of 30% in whites in the end eventually dulled the green to almost a cream and even my joe base was white vs green. Also noticed reduced polyp extension. Lets just say I am back where I started at 35% white 100% blue overall and that is where it will peak each day. Colors are making a slow comeback. Notice I said SLOW, so the key is leave it alone for a couple months and see how it recovers.

I would say mid level placement with good flow would be what I shoot for.

Hopefully others can chime in with their first hand experiences.

PS this is from ORA page
Description:The ORA Red Planet is one of our most popular corals. It is a tabling Acropora with red and pink corallites and a metallic green base. Polyp coloration on this coral is a deep red and the new growth is light pink to white. Under intense lighting the coral may lose the attractive green coloration, it will return if the coral is moved to a lower light area.

Placement: All Levels

Lighting: Medium – High

Flow: Moderate – Strong

Thanks guys. I read the ORA thing a bunch of times and that was one of the reasons I moved it lower about a month ago.

As far as levels.
ALk Stable between 8 to 8.3
Calcium 390 -410
Mag 1300
PH 7.9-8.1
lighting - (2) Kessil 360we that ramp up and down to 60% color and 95% intensity over the day from 11am - 9pm.

This is the only coral that has lack of PE.. It does have PE just not like it use too.
Thanks for the tips. I really loved this coral when I saw it online and hope it turns around. This was the smallest frag I got from the swap, so it might just need more time to get comfortable in my tank.

I'll grab one this weekend.

Here is what it looked like when I got it under mostly blues.

looks happy buddy.. just let it grow.. once it takes hold it will grow.. sometimes different sps's take longer to start really taking off.

Yeah that was when I got it.. It unfortunately does not look that healthy now.. I'll get a new pic tonight.

yes I will as long as Tcoyle doesn't mind.. Or you can follow my latest post in Reef Chemistry forum. As I will be putting a bunch of photos there.

It took a couple months for mine to color back up. It's in the upper half of my tank under high flow. It was worth the wait just keep your water good and be patient

post away… All the info I can get is welcomed. The more we can help each other the better!

Not anymore. Did have an issue with a little hair algae and cyano a few months. All my other Acros and SPS are coloring up great.
