So I have a question for you guys. I got a huge colony of Red Robin acropora at a LFS today. In the tank at the store (14k MH?) it was obviously red and nice enough to get me to purchase it.

When I got it home it was quite rosy purple in my tank. I've got T5's

1 aquablue (white)
4 blue
2 purple
and one procolor pink

I think that adding another white (which is something I've been considering a while now) will make more of the red show??? Am I assuming right?

And for the sake of saving me some trial and error...which one would you switch out first? A purple or a blue to achieve the best red tones?

you should post a pic :D i havn't seen very many red acros......or any now that i think about it.

i'm going to as soon as my camera powers up... like i said in my tank is "mauve' but it was the first red acro (stag?) that I've ever seen.

Well the color purple has red tones in it (a mix of blue and red). So I guess if it was me I would get rid of one of the blues if you would like more red tones. Just my two cents though.

And a FTS with the new piece.. I kinda want to move it over a bit but that would require epoxy...and right now its just resting nicely where its at

WOW, that is a killer Acro Jessy! I need a frag! :D

Anyways, to answer your question. I think out of 8 bulbs, 3 of them being purple and red i would consider losing one of them and adding another aquablue special. And to be perfectly honest, the pro color has wore on me to the point where i have taken it out of all my t5 fixtures cause it muds to many colors for my taste. I would remove that one.

if the coral has purple hues in it 20k will def bring those out you will need to go with the 14k if you want to bring the red out in this coral I beleive but a sweet piece eitheir way.

So, that piece is the same as Erics?

It is a very nice piece to say the least,

Wow, that's a beautiful coral. Let me know what you think when you replace one of your blue bulbs with a more white bulb. I have a 6 bulb Tek5 and thinking about doing the same thing.

I am going to try to take out one of the purple or blue bulbs today and swap it out. I completely see what you are referring to with the pro color bulb. BUT I do like the way it makes the reds and pink shine as well so I'll deal for a while.

I don't know. I don't like to say that it is 100% because I personally didn't get it from him... But this is the story.

Tank owner went into LFS and sold a lot of his stuff. LFS owner offered him $X.XX for the coral and reefer got mad and wanted more because it was a red robin acro.... they made a deal...

I bought it. LFS told me it was a Red Robin acro and that's as much info as I have to go on.

I made a post about the Red Robin acro on RC because it grows so slow for me. I was trying to find more info about it. There were good exchange of information on that thread. Jose Casas was on it too. You may want to check the thread out.
Nice find btw.

Ok, so I called the store owner to get in contact with the original owner of this coral. The LFS said that they talked to the original owner at length about how he originally paid $100 per inch for the frag. I requested contact info of the original owner to get lineage so I don't have to feel conflicted about calling it what it is ever again.

I'm feeling better about calling it the Red Robin but I'll wait til I can get some lineage info

I wonder how long it took the original owner to grow the colony to that size. I never saw any sps grows that slow. I though Puple Monster grows slow but the Red Robin grows much slower. It also love to encrust.
