So when I turn my pump up the main drain makes a bunch of noise. When I turn the drain valve it gets fixed.

Does this mean I won't be able to run my M1 and different speeds without adjusting the drain valve?
 
Yeah, once you set your return pump speed, and balance the return flow with the overflow drain valve, you don't want to change anything from that point. If your looking to increase/decrease flow in the display, you probably want to do that with your power heads.
 
Also make sure that you calibrate the M1.


Out of curiosity why did you select the M1 for the Reefer 170? I have a Reefer 250 and the S1 is the appropriate pump for that tank.
