Red Sea 260/Wsump New build/First Build

First Reef tank so any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Red Sea 260/W sump. I have 2 options
Reef octopus 130
2 mp10’s hope the stick to glass
Red Sea 25 Gyro
……………………………….
Return pump Various4/Spectra2?
Controller Apex or Hydros?
Lights Red Sea 90 or Hydra 32 I have one of each and will purchase another to make a pair what would you guys prefer for Mixed Reef?

The MP10s may work on the glass if it's thin enough (check the back of the box against your tank). The ReefWave25 will definitely work (I have a pair of ReefWave45s that I love). Return pump - my preference is the Sicce SDC line (DC, WiFi with controller). I like Neptune myself and they just released a new Apex Jr. that would be perfect for your setup. Lights, EcoTech Radion XR15 G5/G6 is what I'd go with, but if you already have a Hydra 32 I'd just get a second one.

Thanks for your input, out of the 2 sumps I have Fiji cube or other what one would you choose? I want to use a Reef Mat 500 but not sure if I can fit it in the bigger sump, I can’t seem to find the footprint of it.

The Red Sea ReefMat 500 has dimensions of 8.3" x 10.6" x 16.7". The sump that's displayed in the images above should work for a ReefMat.

I would use whichever sump is bigger volume wise & fits underneath the cabinet. The more water volume the less intensive changes are in a closed system. The dimensions for the reefmat500 are 21 × 27 x 42 cm / 8.3" x 10.6" x 16.7" so that should help in you’re decision. Looking at the pictures I would probably chose the second sump and you could put the reefmat on the back portion of the middle section. You might have to adjust the plumbing but I think in the long run you will have better success with the ladder option ! For lights I can’t give you an opinion cause I’ve always ran MH but from what I hear the Red Sea leds are quite nice.

Just saw your post - will give my $0.02 on the chance it's not too late to be helpful. I have had my E260 (no sump upgrade) for 7 months and am happy with it. I have one MP10 on the side of the tank, and I am glad I spent the bucks, because the wet side is so easy to remove and clean. I have it on the Reef Crest program, 50% max, which seems to be more than enough for my mixed (mostly softies and LPS, some non-acro SPS) tank. The MP10 does stick (!), but I've read that some people running VorTechs at 100% can run into alignment and vibration problems. No direct experience, but I've also heard that gyre type pumps require more frequent cleaning.

I have an Apex on the E260 and a Hydros on a frag tank. If you are willing to learn simple programming, the Apex is more flexible, otherwise the Hydros is simpler to set up and works fine for most common situations.

The corals in my tank seem to be doing fine with the two Red Sea 90s. There are only three controllable channels on these lights – blue, white, and moonlight (fine by me). If you want to adjust the LED colors one by one, the Hydra 32 may be a better bet.

Thanks for your response. So I actually have 2 Hydra 32 and 2 Red Sea 90s. I think I’m going with the hydras or maybe with 2 hydras and 1 90 just as a experiment lol. But I’m glad to hear the MP10s will stick. Mine do not have möbius though does ur’s? Also in your rear sump do u use anything in that rack currently? Just bought a apex, cor 15 return pump and Dos. What heater are u using?

Looks like you are gearing up! Cool! With two Red Sea 90s at 45% blue and 41% white, the PAR in my tank dead center is 145, near the top 212. Given the power of modern LEDs there is a greater risk of burning corals as opposed to not providing enough light. The general recommendation is to ramp up intensity slowly. I have Mobius, but I believe you can still access various wave programs through the controller. On the bottom shelf of the rack I have MarinePure ceramic biomedia from my old aquarium. I use a 100W Eheim Jager heater. In the winter, with the heat from the circulation and skimmer pumps and the room temp at 69F, the heater can maintain a tank temp of 78F.

BTW, if you are in Denver and have not already been there, I recommend a visit to Aquatic Art which is open for retail Fri and Sat. I bought my E260 there, and the staff provide great advice and guidance.
