Red Sea 350 valve

Does anyone have experience with this valve? I can't seem to dial it in where it doesn't overflow through the emergency or is too low. Has anyone changed it out and used something else which isn't impossible to dial in?

Takes some patience for sure. Make a change and wait 10+ minutes depending on how muchcreturn pump you’re running.

I haven't done it myself. At this point I know the quirks of the stock drain valve just from experience and rarely have to touch it anymore.

I have to mess with mine everyday it is the worst design I have seen, I’m going on 20 months with my reefer 250 and the valve has made me think a few times to tear down the tank. I’ve taken it apart many times to find nothing stuck in there. I get lucky once in a while when it actually works and it’s dead silent and then back to messing with it.

Yeah, I tried a lot of things. I tried to fully open it and close it slowly every 10 minutes, but nothing seems to work. I think I'm going to change it out, does anyone have suggestions on a quality valve?

I'm using a DC return pump where you can adjust the flow of the return. Depends on the amount of flow, you have to adjust the valve so the water level is just above the inlet of the main drain pipe. It does take about 10-15 minutes to get it to the correct adjustments. Once you get it right, you hardly have to make any more adjustments, maybe minor adjustments here and there. Goodluck.

Does it ever change on its own for whatever reason? Tank was running silently all day and then got woken up in the middle of the night to the gurgling? Do you have to change the whole down pipe from the overflow due to size to install a new valve?

Yeah that happens with my tank too , I think you have to redo a lot of it . Powerheads do affect these level in the overflow as well

I had the same issue and replaced mine with a Spears gate valve. Well worth the hassle of plumbing to not have to worry about adjusting the stock Red Sea valve... Good Luck!

No problem, let me know if you have any questions. Btw, you will have to get a replacment part direct from Red Sea. You will need 1 x per drain pipe. The return should already include the barb fitting.
