I'm even debating if I should just cure the dry rock now and then cycle it in a brute bin
May I see your setup?I cured and cycled dry rock directly in my Reefer XL 425 tank, and ran the skimmer and carbon reactors to keep odors down. I was worried it would stink up the house, but there was no smell whatsoever. It did take a couple months though, so if you have the chance to get a head start in a brute bin before setting up your tank, you should do that.
If you want any ideas on setting up your XL 425, take a look at my build thread where I thoroughly documented my design and build process:

Happy to answer any questions.
Good luck!
Hey everyone. I just purchased a xl 425. Waiting for delivery. Question: is there a spot in sump for a REFUGIUM if not is there a way anyone knows of to modify the sump to make room for 1
Thanks for the info.Red Sea updated the sump design last year so it now has a divider to provide a refugium chamber. My older XL 425 didn’t have this so I converted the ATO reservoir into a refugium.
