Long story short my ato somehow stopped working and water got so low return pump started sucking air. I lifted it up and down a few times after filling tank up again and now its dumping all the water in nonstop even though level is a bit above the float. Help! I have never had this issue

These Red Sea ATO's are gravity driven, no? Post a pic. I'm sure we can help you out.

Yes I believe so. I don't know how it went from no water coming out to nonstop water coming out. Will get a pic when I get home it's just a float switch with a hose going to ato container

This is it

I had to remove and clean mine once a month or it would clog, sometimes it still did anyway. I built a custom float switch system driven by my apex and a small pump and added an external 5 gallon jug. I converted my ATO into a refugium and haven't looked back.

How do I remove it, I cant found that info or a video anywhere...

In the photo posted before my comment... Hold the bottom part with the float in one hand so it cant turn, then see the the hexigon screw part on top of the black triangle its connected to? Start twisting that and it'll pop right off. The tubing slides off pretty easily from any of the connections there as well.

Ok will try that thank you!

Gravity driven, float valve controlled ATO are high maintainence and prone to failure. The reservoir on RSR are also very small. That is why I removed the ATO on my RSR450and replaced it with an Icecap ATO. I drilled the RSR reservoir and use it as a refugium. Much less hassle and maintainence and greater reliability

I'm debating getting the atk to run on my apex....

You got an apex? Get 3(1 backup, 1 in the reservoir)float switches, a break out box, and an aqualifter for a pretty fail safe ATO.

When I had my red sea nano somehow cat hair would get in the tiny hole inside the reservoir
