I am trying to reach the holy grail with colours in my reef tank,

I have been running a CaRx for a good 6 months, I also try and stick with 10% water change every fortnight using a decent SPS salt,

Just recently had an Triton ICP test done and my trace elements are suffering.

So thought I would try adding the red sea colours kit to boost these, I don't currently know the consumption so just started out on a 1ml of each a day.

So my question is I need to dose the range to calcium consumption, but I may just be being silly but how do I work out the consumption using a CaRx.

I usually just keep an eye on KH (alkalinity) at 8.4 and the last ICP keeps a steady calcium level of 435ppm.

Any ideas? any guys out there with calcium reactors suffering the same issue?

You could get the test kit that goes with the Coral Colours if you feel like being a mad scientist, I sent it back! Lol

I have 650 litres and air very much on the side of caution and dose around 5ml every 7 days or thereabouts. This is probably under dosing.

If you don’t know the exact calcium uptake, you need to either test or make an informed ‘guess’ as to how much to use.

To be honest, dont expect a dramatic change to the corals colours, I can’t tell if the coral colours make a difference or not, but I follow the reef program so just keep using them.

Well I have been going along with the 1ml of each a day for some time with the colours and the icp test results were not so good,

so my corals must be sucking them up as fast as I put them in,

All the following traces were to be dosed in decent amounts, advised from Triton,

Potassium was 320 should be 400
Iodine was reading 0 :( should be 60
Boron
Strontium
Lithium
Molybdenum
Vanadium
Manganese

So the media in the reactor cant be topping much up and neither can the 10% water change ever fortnight.

If your getting Triton tests done you can work out a rough dosage from 2 test results over time to see the difference

It will be a rough guide anyway

Why not use Triton's products? All of the elements you listed are the same ones that I dose (plus zinc) to keep up to Triton's acceptable levels. Does it matter to the corals? Who knows.
Similar to what SPR1968 said I would use Triton's products and use their dosing recommendations to bring the levels up. Wait one month and send in another water sample. This should give you an average daily consumption.
