Recently began starting/ cycling my Red Sea Reefer 525XL. I have been out of the hobby for about 9 months due to a relocation ( sold my 55g tank with a lot of hang on equipment). Used Red Sea Coral Pro salt in the past, but i dont remember the sweet/ perfumy smell of the salt in the bucket. Am i just forgetting, did something change? I have a blue bucket of Red Sea as well and am not getting that smell. Thanks, reef family!

I havnt noticed a perfume smell either but that salt grows great fish and corals.

I also use RSCP. It's very clean, but I don't notice any perfume smell.

Maybe someone's secretly trying to get your attention? :D :D

I notice a sweet smell from almost every bucket of salt I open. Maybe our noses just pick up chemicals differently? I've never thought much about it.

I use Red Sea Coral Pro as well. I haven't noticed any smells from it that I can think of. It does smell different than the Instant Ocean that I use in my fish only though.

OK, you prompted me to set my nose into it.

I detect a very clean, healthy, almost sterile smell that i find modestly pleasant. Unfortunately, no perfume smell. But my wife says that my sense of smell is awful.

All that said, if I was selling salt, you bet that it'd have a clean, and if possible moderately pleasant, smell to the majority of people.......

Old thread but I just started using RSCP and it does smell very sweet to me.

Would be a funny joke to see how many people would smell their bucket of salt...
